    Exciting Times!

Yesterday was an exciting day for me!  I went to see a midnight showing of Prince Caspian, and when I came back to the room, I discovered that "Timmy and those" had forced a game 7 with the New Orleans Hornets.  I also just had a cup of coffeeCoffee cup so I really can barely keep still to type this up.  Oh the joy!  God is so great!  I have also gotten over the stuffy congestion that I've had for the last two weeks!  Yea! Party

How did I feel about the new Narnia film?  Well, being a Narnian myself (Open-mouthed!), I was a bit disappointed with the straying away from the original story.  Some of these deviations I considered understandable, especially since Caspian may be the slowest of the seven books.  I mean, filmmakers have to move it along at a quicker pace for viewers.  However, I also found several changes to be inexcusable.  Particularly, the High King Peter’s un-kingly like conduct in the railway station and in his confrontations with Caspian.  Peter wasn’t quarrelsome or easily provoked into physical violence like the new movie portrayed.  Obviously, they wanted to play up William Moseley and Anna Popplewell‘s roles since we won’t be seeing them in a while, and made them a little more conformed to the character of typical young people today.  My other main bicker with the film was Susan’s flirtation with Caspian—did it have to end with a kiss!  How un-kosher!  It totally doesn’t become either one of these royals to be behaving in such undignified fashion…especially since Caspian later goes on to marry, and Susan has her own problems.  They never meet again.  Gross!  What would Rilian think?  And strangely enough, Aslan never scolded the children for any of this behaviour.

Anyway, I'm still very hopeful for Dawn Treader, which has so much going on, I don't think there's much need for creating wandering fillers.

The NBA Playoffs are here, and I'm reliving my favourite NBA memories --thanks to YouTube!

At the top of my list are the Nike Fun Police --when I thought KG and yellow trenchcoats were cool!  If anyone finds the "Whistle Happy Ref" or the "Ball Hog" email me!

Also check out highlights from TNT's "Inside the NBA" with Sir Charles, Kenny, and EJ!

    More film for thought...

I went to see the film Vantage Point today, and I really enjoyed it.  I found it quite thought-provoking.  The movie presented us with six limited-perspective views on one incredible, intense, and wide-impacting situation. It left the thoughtful viewer realizing how such real-life occurrences always have many different lives and views involved, of which we never become aware.  I especially appreciated the way the film addressed the mass media.  The movie opened and closed with the view point of the event as presented to the mass audience of the television news media--basically showing how little of the story they actually got.  Feel free to see the Plugged In Online review for content details, but to sum it up, a few sudden uses of harsh profanity and intense, dramatic situations are the only major concerns.
Also, you know how I love to compare new releases with classics (Flight Plan and The Lady Vanishes, for example).  Check out the film Suddenly, another clever movie about an attempted presidential assignation, showcasing the heroes who risk their lives to stop the outrage, and the rogues (the ringleader smartly played by Frank Sinatra) who try to pull it off.

    2008 NBA All-Stars

Sunday may have been a bit of a disappointment [for me Disappointed ], but Saturday was a big excitement!  My favourite NBA player of all time was back!  The Admiral!  I just wanted to see him in uniform again, but was absolutely thrilled with the win. Open-mouthedOpen-mouthedOpen-mouthedOpen-mouthedOpen-mouthed  I couldn't stop jumping up and down for at least 5 minutes.

Also, here's some highlights of the Sprite Slam Dunk competition, if you missed it.  Dwight Howard gave us some great laughs. Tongue out  (But just so you know, besides Clark Kent, only Shaq may be called "Superman").

    On a mission

I think my favourite passage right now is Matthew 5:14-16.  I feel like I'm on a mission, and this is it!
"Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.  Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
      (See entire chapter)
This is something that I want to work hard on everyday.  I don't want things I do or attitudes that I have to act as a bowl covering over my "light."  So next time you see me doing something kinda stupid, go ahead and ask me "are trying to cover up your light?"  Sometimes, I could use a little help.  Light bulb

    Nothing else matters...

"Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, And be found in Him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:"  Philippians 3:8, 9 KJV  (See entire chapter)

    Thought for Film

One more thing: Next time you think about going to the theatre to check out the latest box office smash, why not consider what kind of content you might be about to take in.  Check out Plugged In Online.  It will give you a thorough review, explaining what positive and negative elements are in the film, along with language, violence, and sexual content, without giving away the plot (the reviewers will always warn of any spoilers).  So if you hate going to a movie, just to discover there's more stuff in there that you'd want to see (or hear), please check out this fantastic website first.  It really pays off (like $7)!

    Film for Thought

Filmstrip  Below I've added two public domain movies from the Internet Archive's Feature FilmsMy Favorite Brunette (1947) is a Film Noir spoof staring old-time funny man Bob Hope and the always spooky Peter Lorre.  Being a classic film lover, myself, I got a kick out of the fun comedy.  The Last Man on Earth (1964) is the first of the three film adaptations of Richard Matheson's novel, I Am Legend.  This one features horror legend, Vincent Price!  I haven't watched it yet myself, but I am looking forward to viewing this one and comparing it with the new release.

Please feel free to share your thoughts on these films by clicking "Add a comment."

Loved, adopted, redeemed, and forgiven--lots to be thankful for!

"Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, wherein He hath made us accepted in the beloved.  In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace;"  Ephesians 1:5-7 KJV  (See entire chapter)

    What Tiffany said

Tiffany saw the previous blog entry and said, "'Trying to take this seriously'...this is boring, Jen."  My apologies to everyone.

    Trying to take this seriously

I may not be Gilbert Arenas, but I've decided to try and take this blog thing a little bit more seriously.  So here's what's happening right now.  I've almost got all my application requirements finished for SCAD.  I just got my two reference letters from two Lee professors while I've been visiting Cleveland, TN.  So I should be heading off for Savannah in March.  'Til then, I'm going to continue working at Christian Life in Nassau, leading the Media Team there and doing their video editing.  I intend to do my best at being faithful where God's planted me for the time being.  That's all for now.

    They haves spaces now too!

    You have a blog?

My sisters, shocked, asked me, "You have a blog?  You have to show us this!"
    November 09

    Oh.

Oh, it's a web log of entries displayed in chronological order.  I guess that makes sense.

    What is a blog?

What is a blog?  Anyone know?  I'd better look it up on Wikipedia.  I'll get back to you.
